The Great Outdoors – A Natural High

After a year defined by staying indoors, now more than ever, its time to celebrate the great outdoors. For many this year the outside has been a source of relief, a change of scene, a place to escape and a place to stomp out that mood.

The outside has become our arena for life. Be it a place to exercise, practice mindfulness or connect with friends, the fresh air helps to release those happy endorphins as we enjoy our surroundings.

Now that the days are getting longer and the weather warmer, the outside is a natural mood booster and a great way to add some positivity to your day.  Here are a few reasons why it’s good to get out and about.

Beauty

The outside is where we get our nature fix, if that’s a walk round the park or chilling in your garden, this is when we see trees, green and most importantly plants and flowers.

Did you know the repetitive shape of flowers is part of the reason we find them so beautiful?  No matter what kind, the structure of any flower displays harmony balance and proportion. The combination has been proven to calm our brains, decreasing stress and anxiety whist simultaneously revitalising us.

So next time your out and about have a proper look at the beautiful flowers that are starting to blossom.

Air

With spring arriving the air is full of the sweet scents of daffodils, crocuses and blossom. With this comes fresh air and one of the main reasons getting out and about is so good for you! Being outside gets bountiful amount of oxygen to your brain (and with this weather vitamin D as well!), improving its function and your mood.

Fun

Being outside in nature is not only great for your mental and physical health but it is also a wonderful way to spend a day. Exploring where you live on foot or on a bike is a great way to get to know your area better, whilst simultaneously getting that endorphin release. Whether you live in the country and can explore local walks or in the city, getting out and about is a great way to spend your time.

Recently I have been enjoying the beautiful Nunhead cemetery, if you live in South London its definitely worth a visit! One of our partners for this months “Spring Forward” box (more to be announced in due course) are the masters of finding gorgeous walks in your area…ideal for that spring walk.

With the end of lockdown on the horizon, our next box couldn’t be more timely. With a plant that will welcome Spring into your home or garden and some partners that will get you out into the wild we are very excited about what is to come and hope to bring you the benefits of the Great Outdoors.
