4 Ways You Can Be More Green

The UN climate change COP26 conference is currently taking place in Glasgow, bringing together world leaders to commit to urgent global action and although this event is for big corporations and businesses to reduce emissions and use clean energy…we all have a part to play.

Plant or Grow Your Own

Transport is one of the UK’s largest polluters and the produce we buy in the supermarket has been halfway around the world before it gets to your kitchen. So, a great way to reduce your household’s carbon footprint is to grow your own food wherever possible. If you can’t grow your own, go to a local farmers market where the produce has a low carbon footprint. Planting a tree or a plant from seeds will increase oxygen levels, helping us breathe fresher air.

Carrots, herbs and leafy salad greens are super easy and will be happy growing away next to your kitchen sink and ready for you to eat.

Avoid Single Use Plastic

We are all painfully aware of this, and it can be a lot harder than it sounds.

Plastic pollution has a direct and deadly effect on wildlife, with thousands of sea turtles and other marine animals suffering after ingesting or getting tangled in plastic and through bioaccumulation of micro-plastics. Easy habits such as refilling your water bottle, buying boxed water using a tote bag and making conscious decisions about which products you buy when you are shopping may feel insignificant but all help take society to a more plastic-free world.

Eat Seasonally, Locally and More Plants!

Mother nature has an abundance of products to offer with each passing season. Animal products require more water and resources than a plant based diet, which consumes 50% less water on average….that’s 600 gallons of water a day saved!

Be Energy Efficient At Home

Yes, its pretty nippy out there at the moment…and we all want to crank the heating and cosy up in front of the tele.

Don’t forget to neglect simple things this winter like having your heating on a timer, turning your lights off when you don’t need them, signing up for energy saving programmes and unplugging electronic devices when they are not in use.

This month our Mind, Body & Soil box aims to show you how eating fresh, homegrown & local produce can boost your health and wellbeing and help the environment at the same time.
